An Extra Day

Ooo, isn't it exciting today, an extra day in the year.  Some people I know have been talking about doing something different today, something they wouldn't normally do, I guess traditionally it was always been the day that girls could ask boys to marry them in that old fashioned sort of way!!  So I've been thinking about what I could do, within the confines of the school run, work etc etc ...!

It was very tempting to spend the day knitting, but then there were other things I needed and wanted to do - so I decided to do EVERYTHING - quickly!

A quick bit of laundry, knitting, work, blogging, sewing, ferrying children, eating, drinking, breathing and general other mundane things but at a pace!

Unfortunately during all this rushing around, doing everything I didn't get round to taking a photo, so here is one of our sitting room.  Strangely Flopsy Bunny was asked to bring in a photo of her sitting room for school today - I am yet to find out what it was needed for - the mind boggles . . .!

How did you spend your extra day today?

On my needles

I am just loving this knit at the moment.  Mainly because it seems that large needles (7mm) and nice chunky wool means a very quick knit.  I seem to be zooming along, which is just as well as I am in desperate need for some new knitwear.  I also have a sneaky feeling that I have bought too much wool than I will need.  So I have been hatching plans for making something for Flopsy Bunny with the left over wool!

I'm also really pleased in how the colour is turning out, I wasn't really sure how it would look when it was all balled up when I first bought it.  Hopefully by this time next week you'll get to see me wearing this!!

Spring is in the air

Spring definately feels like it is in the air at the moment.  The joys of British weather that you can go from arctic temperatures and snow to bright and warm sunny days!  I've decided to bring a bit of spring indoors and picked a little bunch of snowdrops - not too many so as to spoil the show outside!

A special day

It's been a special day for a special little girl . . .

I'm not quite sure how six years have flown by so quickly but it has been wonderful.  It is hard to image our lives without Flopsy Bunny and Little Roo.  My not so little girl is growing up and it is so lovely discovering new things about her.  My favourite thing at the moment is to catch her thinking and ask 'what are you thinking about right now?', I'm fascinated in what goes on in her little world . . . although she rarely tells me!  We love you Flopsy Bunny, you make us smile and laugh and feel all warm and cosy inside.

Happy Birthday my beautiful girl

Snow and away

It's been a little quiet around here lately.  We have been having lots of snowy fun both at home and away.  But now the half term holiday is over and we are back to our old routine again.

During our snowy snap we've had a frequent visitor to the garden.  He discovered our bird feeder quite early on and then effectively took up residence under it until he discovered where the seed was coming from.  Then to our amazement he started jumping up and pecking great beakfulls of the seed.  Little children were dispatched to shoo the pheasant away, but he was not fazed at all.  Poor little robins, I will have to find a secret place to put food out for you!  Needless to say the feeder has now gone and we have a rather large fat pheasant waddling round the garden.  DH has been looking up receipes for pheasant pie . . .!

Cosy Legs

Phew, some cosy legwarmers made before all the snow melts and Spring launches itself upon us!!  There has been some frantic knitting last week I can tell you as the artic temperatures hit!  Flopsy Bunny seems pleased with them and it may even have caused a little legwarmer revival in our little village!

My favourite moment

Occasionally, on a sunny morning at the weekend, I will creep into the sitting room, pull back the curtains, letting the sun flood in and lie on the sofa with a cup of tea and my knitting.  It is one of my favourite moments.  Alas it is always just that, a moment, before I'm discovered and my lap is for sitting on rather than knitting.  More recently my knitting has been put aside so Flopsy Bunny can do her knitting.  She wants to knit and has picked up the idea quite well, she is just not dexterous enough at the moment to hold the needles, wool and move stitches on and off needles.  Hold onto those precious stitches I cry as they zoom off the end of the needle!

A moment of calm contemplation before the business of the day begins.  What's your favourite moment?

Balloon Art

It is always wonderful, when having known a person for a long time, they can still surprise you with their talents and abilities.  This week I've discovered that DH has a particular talent for creating balloon art attached to the backs of chairs - much to the children's delight.  Memo to self: don't leave DH alone with a packet of balloons you were keeping for Flopsy Bunny's birthday!!  The other surprise - which should not really have been surprising - is Little Roo's ability to find my knitting needle and go round popping said balloon art at the most unexpected times, making us all jump a little!  So thus the circle continues . . .!

That's what we've been up to this week!
